Timothy came home from the hospital... |
Thank you for writing -- and thank you for your loving concern
for Timothy.
Thank you and everyone to whom you forwarded prayer requests -- it
is quite obvious that the LORD surely did answer prayers and blessed
Timothy with a miracle healing. We are grateful for God's marvelous
Hand in and through Timothy's life.
While in that deep "non-responsive" coma, his primary physician (at
OHSU) said that if Timothy "were a 65 year person - I give him 100%
dead. Being a 22 year person, I give him 50/50 - and I don't even
give him that." In prayer the next morning I was asking the LORD
for His will and I was overwhelmed with peace as I said to the
LORD... "Lord, the docs give Timothy fifty/fifty... Well, then,
Lord... that's a win/win." And I got up from prayer and knew I
could only praise the LORD, for whatever He would choose that day
for Timothy would be a win/win. Later, I told the doc that... and
he could only reply: Well, he's not out of the woods yet. And I
told him whatever happens, to God be the glory.
[]This was a note from Wes's sister: "All that I can say is that
as an ICU nurse at a major university hospital for 4 years (and as a
nurse er/ms for 6 years) I have never seen anyone with such serious
brain injury heal so fast. I was afraid to say it, but I did not
think he was going to recover. I saw with my own eyes that he was
completely non-responsive to even painful stimulus and on Saturday
morning they said, and I checked, that his pupils were fixed. I
feared, but felt he was heading towards brain death. Even if he was
to recover, which I doubted, it would take weeks or months. What a
miracle. We will keep praying for complete recovery..."]]
It was later the next morning that he began to awaken from that deep
coma and they removed the ventilator and NG tube. He still required
oxygen and another of eight total blood transfusions/platelets (a
real picture of Life in the Blood) and more IV Fluids and meds.
Though he does not remember that day nor much of the next and
certainly not much of the week previous, he did make excellent
progress. Later that afternoon, one of the first things he said was
that he wanted to go home. He asked for Frosty (a milk shake from
Wendy's). We were elated. When Brian heard that's what he asked
for, he and Lisa immediately took off to search for one - and came
back victorious! Timothy says now that it was the best Frosty he
never remembered and was sad to have wasted a Frosty he can't
remember. Brian has assured him that it wasn't wasted and that it's
a Frosty none of us will ever forget.
Timothy has been on antimalarials, antibiotics (still has another
week of antimalarial to address the risk of malaria in his liver)
and now, probiotics. :o) He will be having some different tests
this week to check liver function/blood counts/etc., etc. He's
slowly gaining some weight... up to 144 now!
He is trusting the LORD for everything involved in this 'event.'
We're all thankful for all the prayers on his behalf -- and for the
care he received at Samaritan Hospital, the life flight to OHSU and
the excellent care from the teams of docs and nurses there. He's
eager live!! His sense of humour is sharp and his zeal read, to
study the Word and to follow the LORD is strongER!! People are
asking if Timothy will return to Ghana or to Africa - and he says he
will do whatever -- go wherever, whenever the LORD wants.
Though he tires very easily and rests quite a bit, so far as we can
tell, he's recovering well -- but just as the Power's in the blood
-- for Timothy so will some health issues be revealed. So, we'll
see more when the test results are in!!
So... thank you... everyone for your prayers on his behalf... we can
only say, thank you and praise the LORD.
